As the evenings start to cool off, we tend to get lots of questions about when to overseed in Arizona. Here a few tips: • Don’t overseed too soon • Wait until at least 3 consecutive nights of temperatures in the 60’s • Don’t cut your grass all the way to the dirt • Before you put the seed down, make sure your irrigation system is fully functioning (or call us for an irrigation tune-up for only $25!) • Once the seed is down, keep it wet until it germinates (we suggest several times a day for 5-7 minutes each) • By week 3 or 4, you should start to see new grass, which means you can cut back the watering to every other day for 10 to 12 minutes a cycle. • Maintaining the new grass is just as important as getting the seed down correctly, let us know if you need any help. With temperatures above 110 degrees in Phoenix, you may not be thinking about fall flowers, but the time is now. Believe it or not, we do a large majority of our ordering in July for Valley residents who want to plant Geraniums, Petunias, Pansies, Snap Dragons and Dianthus. The flowers won’t arrive until temperatures begin to cool down, but we need to give our suppliers ample time to get large orders in. We recommend pruning before the summer monsoons hit in Arizona, especially if you didn’t tend to your trees and bushes during the winter months. Overgrown trees can definitely topple over or break apart during the high winds of the monsoon season. How to determine if you need to prune? • Do you have an infection or insect infestation? • Has it been more than a year since you examined your trees and shrubs? • You have a mature tree that needs some TLC? • Are your trees or bushes top heavy or overgrown? April is National Garden Month and we have some easy ways to for you to get started. Whether you are a seasoned pro or rookie, Landscaping by Andre can help you build/maintain a variety of gardens. First, decide what you want to plant. It may be flowers, herbs, fruits, veggies or a combination of everything. Next, determine where the best spot is for your new garden. Do you have a dedicated space in your yard? Do you want to dig into the ground or create raised flower beds? Then, think about space – what direction does your new garden face? Will it get enough or too much sun? Is it on a sprinkler or drip system? Or will you need to water it manually? How much time do you have to invest in gardening?
